Landscape Design

From hand-drawn concept to coordinated construction documents.

01 // Overview

What we do

We keep exploring new landscape tools, plugins and workflows so our capabilities evolve with the industry. Our landscape team develops initial designs from scratch, or turns hand-drawn client sketches into concept drawings that match the intended design language.

02 // Approach

Concept development

We present site options side by side, so you can choose a direction. The chosen option is then developed in detail.

03 // By stage

Level of detail by stage

01 Schematic design

3D BIM modeling from concept layouts or sketches, with renderings and visualizations.

02 Design development

Contour modeling, site furniture, planting, theming, water features, wayfinding, signage and parametric content within the BIM environment.

03 Construction documents

Coordinated landscape documentation including levels and drainage, hard landscape, soft landscape and enlargement plans.

04 Manufacturing and construction

Shop drawings and fabrication models for landscape structures. As-built models are updated from RFIs and site markups, with 2D AutoCAD drafting for all required drawings.

04 // Approach

Complex geometry

Theming elements, boulders and other intricate forms are developed in Rhino for accuracy and realistic renders, then brought into Revit as SubD and mesh geometry to keep the Revit model light and healthy.

05 // Highlights

Automation

  • Shrubs placed on sloped contours
  • Rock walls built with varied stone sizes
  • Trees placed from a CAD layout in one click, by species lookup
06 // Approach

Plugins and workflows

Landscape-specific Revit plugins support topography, vegetation and site elements. A further workflow builds a toposolid from CAD contours and exports proposed levels as LandXML for Civil 3D.

07 // Approach

Validation and coordination

Landscape architects validate designs against project goals and site conditions. BIM-based clash detection ensures submitted models are coordinated.

08 // Highlights

Schedules and typical details

  • Hardscape and softscape schedules from the model
  • Boulder plan and section
  • Tree and shrub planting details
  • Structural tree pit details
  • Stepped details in plan and section
